Piloting the Laderoboter & The Shamblers – The Old Blood Chapter 7: Old Town Walkthrough

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Gameplay Chapter 7: Old Town Walkthrough 4K 60FPS

After a huge explosion shakes Wulfburg and releases a strange ancient gas, B.J. Blazkowicz’s world suddenly turns supernatural. In Chapter 7, called Old Town, B.J. pilots a Laderoboter—a heavy Loader Robot or Mech—which is his main way to survive a new threat. Old Town is now a flooded, ruined maze where the living have been replaced by the undead. These enemies, called Shamblers, are the reanimated bodies of Nazi soldiers and local civilians caught in the gas. Now, they wander the narrow alleys and canals, hunting anything still alive.

As B.J. moves the Mech through the early parts of Old Town, players experience a dark and moody setting that feels very different from earlier chapters. The Laderoboter is key here, letting you smash through the heavy barricades the Nazis used to block off the area. The mission switches between using the Mech’s strength to crush waves of Shamblers and moments when B.J. must get out and face danger on foot. This mix highlights how desperate things have become, with Wulfburg’s streets now just a graveyard full of undead and memories of what once was.

Navigating the Incursion and Lowering the Drawbridge

The start of Old Town focuses on using the environment and the power of the Laderoboter Mech. B.J. must guide the Mech through narrow, flooded passages in the ruined district. The Mech’s hydraulic arms are not just for fighting Shamblers—they also clear the way by smashing through wooden and metal barricades. This part of the chapter is slow and careful, with the main goal being to keep moving and avoid getting overwhelmed by the many undead hiding around every corner.

Early on, B.J. comes across a raised drawbridge that blocks his path. To move deeper into Old Town, players need to use B.J.’s combat skills along with the Mech’s position. While staying close to the Mech, B.J. must shoot the ropes or chains holding the bridge up. Once the bridge drops, the Laderoboter can cross the canal, letting you continue toward the Dig Site. This is the first big puzzle of the chapter.

Ludwig Kessler’s Final Radio Call and Narrative Conclusion

A key story moment in Chapter 7 happens over the radio, as B.J. talks with his ally Ludwig Kessler. While B.J. moves the Laderoboter through the ruined town, Kessler calls in to share how much he has changed after seeing his home destroyed and losing his friends in the resistance. Kessler tells B.J. he has hijacked a Nazi Zeppelin as his final act of defiance. His voice sounds calm and even happy as he gets ready to fly the airship to Berlin and drop resistance leaflets.

This radio call wraps up Kessler’s story, giving him a tragic but heroic ending. He tells B.J. that his mission is a suicide run, but he feels at peace knowing his last act is to defy the enemy in their own city. Hearing Kessler’s final words makes the events in Old Town feel even heavier, reminding players of the real cost of Helga von Schabbs’s actions. When the call ends, B.J. is left with only the sounds of the Mech and the Shamblers, knowing his friends are making their own sacrifices elsewhere.

Infiltrating the Lagerraum to Find the Gate Key

Eventually, B.J. runs into a locked iron gate that even the Laderoboter can’t get through. This means he has to leave the safety of the Mech and go into the nearby Lagerraum, or warehouse. Switching from the powerful Mech to sneaking and fighting on foot makes things much more tense. Inside, the warehouse is dark and cramped, full of Shamblers hiding in the storage rooms. B.J. must fight his way through these tight spaces, using his pipes and guns to reach the office area.

Inside the Lagerraum, B.J.’s goal is to find a gate key on a desk deep in the building. This part of the chapter shows how scary the Shamblers are in small spaces, where the Mech can’t help. After grabbing the key, B.J. has to make his way back through the warehouse, likely running into more undead drawn by the noise. Once outside, he uses the key to unlock the iron gate, letting the Laderoboter move forward. This section reminds players that B.J. is still vulnerable, even when well-armed.

Surviving the Endless Wave in the Plaza

After unlocking the iron gate and getting back into the Laderoboter, B.J. enters a large plaza that becomes the toughest combat area in the chapter. Here, he faces a huge, almost endless wave of Shamblers coming from every direction. Players need to use the Mech’s attacks quickly and aggressively, since the Shamblers can easily surround the machine. This is the most action-packed part of Chapter 7, and B.J. must clear enough enemies to reach the far side of the plaza, where the last obstacle is waiting.

In the plaza, B.J.’s goal is to reach a second lever on the far side, which opens the last heavy gate. He must fight off the Shamblers while moving toward the lever, balancing the safety of the Mech with the need to reach the control. Once the lever is pulled and the gate starts to open, the way to the Dig Site is clear. This fight is the final test of your skills with the Laderoboter before the story moves on.
