Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut Chapter 6: The Yakuza Way

Chapter 6: The Yakuza Way – The Dojima Manhunt and the Fracture of Brotherhood

Chapter 6: The Yakuza Way marks a major turning point in Yakuza 0. Here, Kazuma Kiryu goes from being a marginalized ex-yakuza to becoming the main target of the Dojima Family. The chapter raises the stakes, develops the characters, and features intense combat that changes Kiryu’s relationship with his sworn brother, Akira Nishikiyama.

The Dojima Ultimatum and Tactical Escalation

The tension starts at Serena, where Kiryu, Nishikiyama, and an injured Jun Oda talk about Hiroki Awano’s ultimatum. Awano, a Dojima Lieutenant, promises to stop the conflict if they hand over Tetsu Tachibana. Kiryu refuses, showing his strong moral code, while Nishikiyama warns that their foster father, Shintaro Kazama, is in danger. This disagreement sets up the emotional climax later in the chapter.
After a meeting at the Empty Lot about who really owns the property, Kiryu has to escape a city-wide manhunt. During this part, Mr. Moneybags introduces the ‘Cash Confetti’ technique, which helps distract Dojima scouts. The chase ends in the sewers, where Kiryu faces a tough second boss fight against Daisaku Kuze.

Boss Encounter: Daisaku Kuze (Round 2)

In the sewers, the rivalry with Daisaku Kuze intensifies. Unlike their initial boxing match, this encounter features Kuze using a motorcycle and a heavy iron pipe, underscoring a more desperate, lethal street-fighting style. Beyond the gameplay mechanics, the fight serves to establish Kuze’s philosophy: that the yakuza path is defined by the resilience to endure defeat. Despite Kiryu’s victory, the encounter reinforces the heavy toll of defying the Dojima hierarchy.

The Mountain Confrontation: A Narrative Climax

The chapter ends with a dramatic twist in a remote forest. Nishikiyama, under pressure to protect Shintaro Kazama and himself from the Dojima Lieutenants, tries to kill Kiryu as an act of mercy. He can’t go through with it, showing the strong bond between them. To protect Nishikiyama from being seen as a traitor, Kiryu forces them to part ways. This leaves Kiryu on his own, ending their partnership and starting his fight to survive alone in Kamurocho.
