Chapter 7: A Dark Escape – Goro Majima, The Empty Lot, and the Nishitani Reveal
Chapter 7: A Dark Escape marks a turning point for Goro Majima. As the conflict over the ‘Empty Lot,’ a small but valuable piece of land in Kamurocho, intensifies, Majima’s character also develops as he continues to protect Makoto Makimura.
Meanwhile, the plot centers on the revelation provided by Wen Hai Lee regarding Makoto’s psychosomatic blindness, a condition caused by the trauma inflicted by a man with a distinctive bat tattoo. This heightened narrative tension culminates in a significant moral crossroads when Lee proposes a ‘body double’ murder to deceive the Yakuza. Majima’s refusal to sacrifice an innocent girl triggers the Wen Hai Lee boss fight, a powerhouse encounter that highlights the protagonist’s shift from a cold-blooded hitman to a protector.
This evolving dynamic continues in the Director’s Cut, where a new scene with Majima and Makoto’s broken watch raises the emotional stakes. Changes in the dialogue, with Matt Mercer’s voice acting, further illustrate Majima’s growing bond with Makoto. In addition, this chapter introduces the Cabaret Club Czar story and Club Sunshine, setting up Majima’s rivalry with the Five Stars of Sotenbori.
The tension reaches its peak with the arrival of Homare Nishitani, a top officer in the Omi Alliance’s Kijin Clan. He first appears as a mysterious caller, then reveals himself as a bold and unpredictable enemy fixated on Majima’s ‘Lord of the Night’ image. As the chapter concludes, a tense showdown unfolds at the Grand Cabaret, with both the Yakuza and the Omi Alliance clashing over the Empty Lot, and Lee and Makoto being forced to make a desperate escape from Sotenbori.
