Chapter 10: A Man’s Worth – Tachibana’s Billion-Yen Gambit and the Tojo Clan Negotiation
Chapter 10: A Man’s Worth marks a key turning point in Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut. Kazuma Kiryu transitions from fugitive to protected member of the Tojo Clan. The chapter provides important background on Tetsu Tachibana. He suffers from kidney failure caused by past torture and previously worked with the Chinese Mafia and Jun Oda. Elder Chen in Little Asia explains this history, describing how the Dojima Family and Shintaro Kazama oppressed the Chinese community.
The story heats up at the Tojo Clan Headquarters. Tachibana negotiates with Acting Second Chairman Nihara, offering one billion yen in cash and a 30% share of Tachibana Real Estate’s future profits to secure Kiryu’s safety. Nihara then declares that Kiryu is now “property of the Tojo Clan Headquarters.” This removes the threat from the three lieutenants: Kuze, Awano, and Shibusawa. But the win is short-lived. Kiryu and his allies must fight their way out, facing many Tojo Clan members, and ending with a dramatic duel against a senior swordsman.
The Director’s Cut improves this chapter with smoother cinematic transitions and an English dub featuring Yong Yea as Kiryu and Matthew Mercer as Majima. There are also longer dialogue scenes that reveal more about Oda’s struggles and mysterious past. The chapter ends when the owner of the Empty Lot is found in Sotenbori, Osaka. This sets up the meeting of Kiryu and Goro Majima’s stories. This chapter shows what ‘a man’s worth’ means through both money and strength, shifting the balance of power in Kamurocho’s underworld.
