Yakuza Kiwami Chapter 5: Purgatory

Chapter 5: Purgatory

Chapter 5 Purgatory is a major turning point in Yakuza Kiwami. After the chaos of the funeral riot, the story moves to the mystery of the missing 10 billion yen and Yumi’s disappearance. Kazuma Kiryu goes to West Park, where he meets The Florist of Sai, who runs Purgatory, the Tojo Clan’s secret information center. To move forward, Kiryu has to prove himself in the Underground Coliseum.
A big part of this chapter is a flashback to 1996 that shows Akira Nishikiyama’s tragic downfall. It reveals that Nishikiyama became desperate to pay for his sister Yuko’s 30-million-yen heart transplant. He is manipulated by the corrupt Dr. Hiyoshi and looked down on by subordinates like Matsushige. These events help explain how he changed from Kiryu’s close friend to a ruthless enemy. The flashback makes it clear that Nishikiyama’s fall was caused by a lack of respect and his urgent need for money, which led him to steal from the Tojo Clan.

The Florist’s information uncovers a complex plot, hinting that the 10 billion yen theft was an inside job and that Yumi may be involved. Things get more intense when Detective Date is hurt, and Haruka is kidnapped by the Majima Family, leading to a tense showdown at the Yoshida Batting Cages. The boss fight with Goro Majima is important because it tests if Kiryu has regained his legendary strength after ten years in prison. Majima does not care about the money; he is only focused on Kiryu’s growth as a fighter.

The chapter ends with the discovery that Haruka is at the heart of the conflict. Her pendant, given to her by her mother, Mizuki, and kept safe by Shintaro Kazama (Fuma), turns out to be the digital key to the vault holding the stolen 10 billion yen. This shows that Haruka and the missing money are closely connected, setting up the coming battle between the Tojo Clan factions and Kiryu’s mission to protect her.
