Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures: The Bogey Man

Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures: The Bogey Man – Urban Golf Match

This is the last chapter of Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures. In “Episode 4: The Bogey Man,” the stakes are higher for the pair. They’ve started a detective agency called “Golden Retrieval.” At the same time, Wallace finds himself accidentally engaged to his neighbor, Felicity Flitt. This confusion from a previous adventure leads to a humorous and dramatic legal battle at the local country club, Prickly Thicket.

Wallace gets anxious when Felicity’s strict Aunt Prudence arrives to see if he’s a good match. Because Prudence dlike Prickly Thicket, Gromit comes up with a clever idea. He has a smart plan: he suggests Wallace join the club, knowing Prudence will immediately disapprove. This plan sets the story in motion.

oining the Thicket (The Golf Club Membership)

The first challenge is getting Wallace into the country club. In Golden Retrieval Case #1, Wallace and Gromit investigate how the club works and listen to Major Crum to learn how to join. The plan sounds simple: Wallace just needs to become a member, which is exactly what Aunt Prudence hopes won’t happen; however, it’s not so easy to implement.

While Wallace deals with the club’s social challenges, Gromit quietly helps him fit in. Their detective agency’s first case isn’t about solving a crime—it’s about helping Wallace end his engagement. After Wallace joins the club, it looks like his problems with the Flitt family are solved, but a new legal issue soon appears.

Saving the Thicket (Finding the Missing Links)

The victory doesn’t last. Constable Dibbins steps in, upset that he isn’t a member, and points out a little-known rule: every country club must have a working golf course to stay open. The problem is that Prickly Thicket lost its land deed years ago, and the golf course has been gone for generations. Major Crum then asks Golden Retrieval to find the missing deed and save the club.

Wallace discovers that his ancestor, Goodman Witless, and his dog Gimlet built the club’s security system. Using a new invention called the Clue Finder, Wallace and Gromit must solve tricky riddles left by Witless. Players need to search the town for three important items: the Silver, Porcelain, and Golden keys.

Winning the Thicket (The Chairman’s Tournament)

After they recover the deed, there’s a twist. The documents reveal that West Wallaby Street sits on top of the old 18th hole of the golf course. The club’s chairman, Duncan McBiscuit, who loves golf, sees this as his chance to restore the club. He announces plans to demolish homes to rebuild the course.

To save their home, Wallace challenges Duncan to a playoff at The 18th Hole. This is the third key part of the episode, focused on the Chairman’s Tournament. According to the club’s rules, whoever wins this match becomes the new chairman and can decide what happens to the land. The game turns into a wild round of urban golf, with Wallace playing through the town’s streets and sewers to beat the determined McBiscuit.

Freeing the Thicket (The Golf Club Traps)

Wallace wins the tournament and becomes the new Chairman of Prickly Thicket. But Duncan McBiscuit doesn’t handle losing well. Out of spite, he tricks Wallace, Gromit, and several townspeople—including the Flitts, Mr. Paneer, and Major Crum—into the club’s Ganges. This is an underground maze and security system built by Goodman Witless.

The main characters are trapped in different mechanical devices powered by large clockwork machines. Gromit takes the lead, using the machinery to turn off the traps and save everyone. Together, they must face the Bogey Man, who turns out to be the club’s automated security system.
Gromit saves the day. He turns off the traps and frees everyone. West Wallaby Street is safe because Wallace, as Chairman, chooses to keep the town. The best part is personal: Aunt Prudence is so upset with Wallace’s new job that she won’t let him marry Felicity.

Wallace is very relieved to be single again. After saving the town and avoiding a life with the Flitts, Wallace and Gromit go back to their quiet life on West Wallaby Street. The episode ends the Grand Adventures series by showing the strong bond between the inventive Wallace and his loyal, silent friend.
