Survival on Typhon & Protocol 1 – BT-7274 – Titanfall 2 Walkthrough & Story Breakdown
The second mission of Titanfall 2, called “BT-7274,” marks a big shift in the story. It starts on Typhon, an alien planet where a Militia attack against the IMC has failed. You play as Jack Cooper, a Rifleman suddenly thrown into a new role after a crash landing. This chapter is important because it’s where Cooper and the Titan, BT-7274, first form their bond in desperate circumstances. It’s the turning point where Cooper goes from surviving as a foot soldier to becoming a Pilot, starting a memorable partnership.

The Survival of Jack Cooper and the Last Stand of Captain Lastimosa
After escaping the lifepod, Jack Cooper has to deal with the chaos left by the crash. The area is full of debris and IMC Spectres, so players need to use basic combat skills to get through. The main goal at first is to find other survivors and see how bad the damage is. During this search, Cooper finds his mentor, Captain Tai Lastimosa, and the Titan BT-7274. Their reunion is brief because the Apex Predators, a group of mercenaries led by Kuben Blisk, attack soon after. This moment changes Cooper’s life as he sees his mentor face overwhelming odds.
Captain Lastimosa protects Cooper from danger but is badly wounded. Knowing he doesn’t have much time, Lastimosa makes sure the mission can go on. He gives Cooper control of BT-7274, making him Acting Pilot right away. Lastimosa also gives Cooper his Pilot helmet and Jump Kit, showing Cooper’s new role. With his last words, Lastimosa asks Cooper to finish “Special Operation 217,” a mysterious mission that carries his legacy. This sacrifice pushes Cooper to accept his new responsibilities as a Pilot.

Scavenging for Power: The Search for Titan Batteries
After Lastimosa’s death, the game focuses on exploration and survival. BT-7274 is badly damaged and needs power to function again. Cooper must search the dangerous wilds of Typhon for three Titan batteries. Along the way, players face IMC patrols and aggressive wildlife called Prowlers. Finding these batteries is the main goal in the middle of the mission, and Cooper needs his new Jump Kit to cross the planet’s tough terrain.
Each battery is hidden in a different spot and needs a unique approach to reach. The first battery is near the crash site of the MCS James MacAllan, introducing players to scavenging. The second battery is deeper in a canyon guarded by IMC infantry, so players must fight to get it. The third battery is inside a large ship wreck on a cliff, which requires more platforming skills. During this search, players feel the isolation of being a lone Acting Pilot, highlighting the need to restore BT-7274 if they want to survive the IMC forces closing in.

Establishing the Neural Link and the Core Protocols
After installing the third and final battery, the mission reaches its climax with the creation of the Neural Link. This is a key moment in Titanfall 2, as Cooper climbs into the cockpit and starts syncing with BT-7274’s artificial intelligence. The Neural Link is more than a control system; it is a mental and digital bridge that lets the Pilot and Titan work as one. During this scene, BT explains the core rules that guide him, called the Three Protocols. These are not just lines of code but the moral and operational guide for every action BT takes, giving structure to their growing partnership.
BT-7274 explains the protocols clearly, and they are important for the player. Protocol 1 is Link to Pilot, which makes the connection between Cooper and BT official. Protocol 2 is Uphold the Mission, which now means finding Major Anderson to finish what Lastimosa started. Protocol 3 is the most important: Protect the Pilot. This rule makes Cooper’s safety BT’s top priority, setting a protective tone for their relationship. This sequence is when Jack Cooper stops being just a Rifleman and truly becomes a Pilot, fully connected with one of the Militia’s most advanced Titans.

The Counter-Attack and the First Victory as a Team
The new link is tested right away when an IMC Salvage Team finds the crash site and attacks. This fight is the first real example of what a Pilot and Titan can do together. Players use BT’s special gear for the first time, like the Vortex Shield to block shots and the Acolyte Pod for powerful missile attacks. The battle is intense, with waves of IMC Spectres trying to overwhelm them. But the advanced Vanguard-class Titan and Cooper’s growing skills help them win in a dramatic show of strength.
The fight ends with a boss battle against an IMC Brute Titan, pushing players to use all of BT’s abilities. Winning this is the first major victory for Cooper and BT, making their partnership stronger. With the area secure, they prepare to leave the crash site. Now, they shift from just surviving to following Lastimosa’s orders. As they set out to find Major Anderson, it’s clear their journey is just beginning.
