Yakuza Kiwami Chapter 6: Father and Child – The Shadow of the Dragon: Nishikiyama’s Struggle
Chapter 6 of Yakuza Kiwami “Father and Child,” explores family relationships by showing the personal struggles of Kiryu’s friends and the downfall of Akira Nishikiyama. The chapter starts with a flashback to the late 1990s, where Nishikiyama becomes desperate to pay for his sister Yuko’s heart transplant. During this time, Nishikiyama has to ask Osamu Kashiwagi for forgiveness after his subordinate, Matsushige, illegally extorts businesses in Kashiwagi’s area. This failure to control his own men shows that Nishikiyama cannot earn the same respect as Kazuma Kiryu.
In the 2005 part of the story, the focus shifts to the Florist of Sai and his distant son, Takashi. Kiryu is asked to watch over Takashi and ends up fighting the B-King gang at the Yoshida Batting Center. The situation continues at Club Debolah, where Kiryu protects Takashi and his girlfriend Kyoka from the Atobe Family. In the end, it turns out the Atobe leader was only testing Takashi’s determination. As a result, Kiryu gains permanent access to the Purgatory Monitor Room and the Fukuma Casino, which are important for investigating the 10-billion-yen case.
At the same time, the chapter looks at the troubled relationship between Detective Makoto Date and his daughter, Saya. The story shows that Saya is being tricked by a host named Shota, who plans to sell her into sex work to pay off debts to a loan shark named Haruta. This part ends with a dramatic rescue at the Hanagata Building, where Kiryu and Date stop Shota and Haruta’s group. Afterward, Date and Saya reconnect emotionally, showing that Date is now more committed to his family even though he is still focused on the Tojo Clan case.
The chapter ends with important changes in the story. We learn that reporter Tamura faked his death with help from the Florist so he could investigate in secret. Detective Date also decides to go against the Police Chief’s orders and keeps working on the 10-billion-yen case. These actions strengthen the partnership between Kiryu and Date as they work outside the law to find out what happened to the missing money and Yumi Sawamura.
