Chapter 10: Shape of Love – Shinji’s Sacrifice
Chapter 10 of Yakuza Kiwami, called Shape of Love, focuses on the personal struggles that define Kazuma Kiryu’s story. It explores how Akira Nishikiyama’s rise to power changes the people around him, and how loyalty and unreturned feelings can have serious consequences in Kamurocho’s underworld.
The chapter opens by showing what drives Nishikiyama to become a villain. In a flashback with his subordinate Matsushige, players see the moment Nishiki loses his humanity and becomes a ruthless leader. This leads to the present, where a mole is found leaking Kiryu’s movements. Using Kage the Florist’s surveillance at Purgatory, it is revealed that Reina, Kiryu’s longtime friend and owner of the Serena bar, is the informant. Her actions are driven by her unreturned love for Nishiki, which is a key theme in this chapter.
Next, the gameplay takes players on a tense chase through the Kamurocho Hotel District, where Kiryu follows a trail of blood to find his old friend, Shinji Tanaka. This chase ends with a rooftop fight against the Nishikiyama Family. Kiryu battles Kazuto Arase, a top officer who uses two pistols. During this boss fight, players find out that Reina has been killed, which ties back to the chapter’s main theme. Even though Kiryu wins the fight, the real focus is on the loss of his close friends.
Chapter 10 ends with Shinji Tanaka’s death. Before he dies, Shinji tells Kiryu that Shintaro Kazama is still alive, there is a hideout called Shangri-La, and Yumi’s ring is linked to the missing 10 billion yen. This chapter leaves Kiryu alone, having lost his oldest friends, and makes him even more determined to confront Nishikiyama. For many players, Chapter 10 is the emotional core of Yakuza Kiwami, combining tough boss fights with a deep look at betrayal.
