Chapter 9: The Rescue – Lau Ka Long Boss Fight, and the MIA Conspiracy
In chapter 9 of Yakuza Kiwami, “The Rescue,” The action shifts to Yokohama, where Kazuma Kiryu works to save Haruka Sawamura from the Snake Flower Triad. During this chapter, Kiryu reflects on his decision to take the blame for Dojima’s murder ten years earlier. He hopes to find redemption by protecting Haruka and notices how his determination matches Haruka’s courage as she searches for her mother, Yumi.
The main conflict happens at the Snake Flower Triad’s headquarters, a high-end Chinese restaurant. Kiryu goes up against the Triad leader, Lau Ka Long, in a challenging boss fight with several stages. Lau changes his fighting style as the battle goes on. He starts with a Guan Dao for wide attacks, then uses quick dual Chinese sabers, and finally fights with acrobatic kung-fu moves using only his hands. These battles test Kiryu’s endurance and are a big obstacle in the search for the 10 billion yen pendant.
After the rescue, a big plot twist shows there is corruption in the police. Kiryu is wrongly arrested for Haruka’s “kidnapping,” set up by secret groups within the police. This leads to the game’s famous car chase. Detective Date helps Kiryu get away, which turns into a fast gunfight with Triad members and mercenaries. The chase ends with a battle against a large truck that has a rocket launcher and a machine gun.
The chapter ends with an important reveal about the “black-suited goons.” Detective Date explains that these attackers are agents from the MIA (Ministry of Internal Affairs). This turns the conflict from a Tojo Clan issue into a much bigger government conspiracy. It raises the stakes, showing that those after Haruka and the missing 10 billion yen are not just from the yakuza world.
