Yakuza Kiwami Chapter 8: The Scheme

Chapter 8: The Scheme – The Snake Flower Triad and the Purgatory Kidnapping

In Chapter 8 of Yakuza Kiwami, “The Scheme,” the focus shifts away from Tojo Clan politics and toward international crime and police corruption. The chapter starts with a dramatic attack on West Park (Purgatory), where three street gangs—the Blue Z, White Edge, and Bloody Eye—team up to break through security and kidnap Haruka. Detective Date gets hurt in the chaos, and the Florist of Sai’s underground network is left unprotected. Because of this, Kiryu Kazuma has to search all over Kamurocho to find Haruka.

Kiryu looks all over the city for the people behind the kidnapping. He beats the Blue Z at Children’s Park and questions the White Edge in the Champion District. His search takes him to Club Debolah in Theater Square, where he faces the Akai Brothers. Shota uses fast moves with a “Breaker-style” technique, while Hiroshi depends on his strength. After defeating them, Kiryu finds out the gangs were hired by Lau Ka Long, the leader of the Snake Flower Triad, a dangerous Chinese mafia group.

Lau Ka Long’s return adds important backstory for Kiryu. A flashback shows that Kiryu was captured and tortured by the Triad twelve years earlier. During the rescue, Shintaro Kazama was shot while protecting Kiryu, which left him with a permanent limp. This history makes the current kidnapping even more serious and explains why Lau Ka Long is such a personal and dangerous enemy for Kiryu.

The “Scheme” in the chapter title is revealed through Detective Date’s investigation into the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. The Homicide Division’s unusual involvement in a kidnapping case hints at a bigger conspiracy. Kiryu and Date both realize that either the police or Yakuza want Haruka to be found dead to hurt the Tojo Clan or frame Kiryu. The chapter ends with the heroes heading to Yokohama’s Chinatown, the Snake Flower Triad’s stronghold, for a final rescue attempt.
