Chapter 8 of Mafia: The Old Country, Disgrazia, takes us back to the cobblestone streets of City San Celeste. The Torrisi family’s counterfeiting operation with Don Galante falls apart when their scheme is exposed. Unlike the fast-paced race in the last chapter, this one focuses on gritty street battles. Enzo Favara and his mentor Cesare must quickly protect their assets, find the traitor, and carry out a major assassination. The 4K graphics really show off the tense, bleak mood of the Fiumansa district as everything falls apart for the family.

Tino’s Warning and the Traitor

The episode starts with a tense meeting. Tino, an important member of the Torrisi crew, tells Enzo that there is a traitor in the family. This person has been working with the police and sharing details about the counterfeiting ring. As soon as this is revealed, the printing operation stops and everyone in Valle Dorata becomes very cautious.

With the police on the move, Enzo and Cesare rush to the Fiumansa district in City San Celeste. Their main goal is to reach the basement hideout and secure it before the police can find any evidence.
  • Lore Fact: The title of the chapter, “Disgrazia,” translates directly to “Disgrace” or “Misfortune” in Italian, perfectly foreshadowing the catastrophic betrayal and the subsequent collapse of the family’s highly profitable counterfeiting ring.

The Guardie Raid on the Tannery

When Enzo and Cesare get to the Fiumansa district, things quickly get worse. The Torrisi hideout, hidden under a local tannery, is suddenly surrounded by police. Major Ettore D’Amico, who we met during the jailbreak, leads a big raid on the place. Stealth is no longer an option; the police break in, and we have to fight them in close quarters.

The gunfights in the tannery are intense and cramped. Unreal Engine 5 makes the action look great as bullets break through wood and smash machines. We have to use cover and fire the Lupara shotgun to clear the narrow basement halls and push back the police. The loud sounds of gunfire echo everywhere. To survive, you need to aim well and keep moving, since Major D’Amico’s men try to surround you.

The Search for the Forger

After fighting off the first group of police, the mission changes to “Find the Forger.” Giuseppe, the skilled counterfeiter Enzo rescued from jail in Chapter 6, is missing in the confusion. Enzo and Cesare search the rest of the tannery and nearby stream, hoping to find him before the police do.

As they search the damaged district, it becomes clear the operation is ruined and the printing plates are lost. While looking through the wreckage, Enzo finally learns who the traitor is, confirming his worst fears about old enemies from the sulfur mines.
  • Lore Fact: The Tannery district setting is historically accurate for early 20th-century Sicilian cities, where leather tanning was a major local industry. These factories produced terrible odors and were often located in the poorer, industrial outskirts of town, making them the perfect front for illicit Mafia operations.

L’Ombra’s Betrayal

The investigation proves that Corrado “L’Ombra” Bastoni is the traitor. After the jail break in Chapter 6, L’Ombra, who once led the Spadaro crew and bullied Enzo, was secretly released. Instead of escaping, he made a deal with Major D’Amico and the police, betraying the Torrisi family’s operation to get revenge on Enzo.

With this news, the chapter changes from trying to save assets to seeking revenge. The main goal becomes “Find L’Ombra,” and Enzo and Cesare start hunting him through the broken southern walls of City San Celeste. The tension is high as the RTX 5080 shows fog rolling through ruined archways, making us check every corner for ambushes while we track L’Ombra to his last hiding place.

Assassinating L’Ombra

The chapter ends in the ruined parts of the city, where Enzo and Cesare finally trap L’Ombra and block his escape. This fight is different from earlier boss battles—it’s a quick, deadly assassination. The combat uses all the skills we’ve learned, and this time, Cesare fights right beside us.

Enzo and Cesare team up to break through L’Ombra’s defenses. Taking down the man who ruined Enzo’s childhood feels very rewarding and unlocks “The Rat” achievement. Even though L’Ombra is gone, the Torrisi family is still in trouble. Their counterfeiting ring is finished, Major D’Amico is getting closer, and a full war with the Spadaro family is now certain.
  • Lore Fact: The concept of an informant, or “pentito,” collaborating with the police was the absolute highest form of treason in the Cosa Nostra. The penalty for violating omertà and speaking to the authorities was always a brutal, inevitable death, precisely as demonstrated by Enzo and Cesare’s execution of L’Ombra.
