The story moves ahead to October 1906. After the intense jailhouse infiltration and the family’s successful counterfeiting ring in Chapter 6, Don Torrisi’s criminal empire keeps growing. In Chapter 7 of Mafia: The Old Country, called “Spirito Sportivo,” the pace and gameplay change dramatically. Instead of gang warfare, a young Leo Galante pulls Enzo and Cesare into a fast-paced, profitable scheme. Leo buys a rusted sports car, planning to fix it up and win a big local driving championship. This episode shifts the gameplay from knife fights to stealth photography and high-speed driving, showing just how flexible the game’s engine can be.

Meeting Leo Galante at Porto Almaro

The chapter begins at the foggy docks of Porto Almaro. Enzo meets Leo Galante and Cesare to check out their newly acquired, old sports car. Leo shares his plan to enter the upcoming racing championship and win a big prize, but they need leverage and resources to avoid being blocked by the local elite. After the opening cinematic, we get in a car and head to Pasquale’s store for instructions on the extortion job ahead.

Driving these early 1900s cars in 4K really shows off the game’s attention to historical detail. The heavy steering and loud engine sounds make you change how you drive compared to modern games. When Enzo arrives at Pasquale’s, he finds out he needs to get solid blackmail material on a powerful local Marquis who controls the area’s politics to secure their spot in the race.
  • Lore Fact: Leo Galante is a big reference to the wider Mafia series. Fans of Mafia II will recognize him as the future consigliere of the Vinci crime family in Empire Bay. Here, we see him as a young man running schemes in Sicily.

Infiltrating the Marquis’ Estate

After leaving the store, Enzo reaches the Marquis’s large, walled estate; he has to sneak in without being seen. If the guards spot you, the mission fails right away.

We use Instinct mode to spot enemies through the stone walls of the courtyard. Lighting is very important in this part. The moonlight creates long, realistic shadows that help us sneak past the armed guards. By moving slowly and carefully, we get past the front gates and head to the back of the property, looking for a good view into the main building.

Photographing Marquis for Blackmail

As we move carefully through the fancy property, we find a brightly lit room with a great view through an open window. Now, the goal changes from just sneaking to investigating. Enzo takes out an old camera to get blackmail evidence. Players need to frame the shot of the Marquis while staying hidden in the dark outside.

We observe the Marquis engaging in a highly compromising, illicit situation. We snap the photograph, instantly securing the exact leverage Leo needs to force their entry into the race. With the film secured, we quietly slip out of the estate, over the outer wall before the guards realize there has been a massive security breach.

The Train Race Test

With the blackmail successfully delivered and the sports car finally operational. Before entering the official competition, Enzo must prove the vehicle’s mechanical reliability and his own driving skills in a test race against a moving train.

If you’re trying to beat the train race in Mafia The Old Country, keeping your momentum is crucial. You need to navigate the winding, muddy dirt roads alongside the tracks without losing control. The speed feels thrilling, with dust flying up and the train roaring beside you. Stay steady through the corners and use the straight sections to just barely beat the train, proving the car is ready for the big race.
  • Lore Fact: The heavy emphasis on early motorsport in this chapter is deeply rooted in actual Sicilian history. In May 1906, the island hosted the very first Targa Florio, an open-road endurance automobile race through the Sicilian mountains that quickly became one of the most legendary and dangerous racing events in the world.

The Championship Race Day

The highlight of Spirito Sportivo is Race Day. The energy is high, with huge crowds along the dirt roads of the Sicilian countryside. Enzo faces a lineup of skilled rivals at the starting line. Winning the championship is the main goal, and every turn, straight, and overtake counts. The AI racers are tough, trying to push us off the road and block our moves in the narrow village streets.

Finishing first earns a big payout for Leo’s plan. The chapter ends with a celebration at Bar Caffè Ginevra, wrapping up this action-packed episode before the mob war returns.
  • Lore Fact: The title “Spirito Sportivo” means “Sportsmanship” or “Sporting Spirit.” This is quite ironic in the mafia world, since Enzo and Leo win by stealing cars, using extortion, and blackmailing the Marquis to fix the race.
