Fallout 4 Walkthrough Episode 15: Mankind Redefined, Mass Fusion & Powering Up

Becoming Father’s Successor and Powering the Institute Reactor in Fallout 4 Episode 15

Episode 15 of our Fallout 4 walkthrough picks up with the teleport animation back into the Institute. Father calls a Directorate meeting, names us his successor, and then sends us after the Beryllium Agitator at Mass Fusion. That choice permanently turns the Brotherhood of Steel hostile. After the raid we recruit T.S. Wallace by force, broadcast a message across the Commonwealth, and finally start the Institute reactor. This episode covers Mankind Redefined, Mass Fusion, Pinned, and Powering Up.

Directorate Meeting and Father’s Successor Announcement

We teleport into the Institute and go straight to Father. He leads us into a Directorate meeting with the division heads. There he announces that he is dying of cancer and that we will succeed him as Director of the Institute. The meeting ends with the Institute shifting toward Phase Three, which requires a new long term power source for the underground reactor.

After the meeting we speak with Allie Filmore. She explains that the reactor cannot be started without a Beryllium Agitator, a rare pre-War device stored inside the Mass Fusion building in downtown Boston. Allie sends us to the molecular relay to begin the operation.

Relaying to Mass Fusion and Retrieving the Beryllium Agitator

At the relay we get a hard warning: using it to reach Mass Fusion will make us a permanent enemy of the Brotherhood of Steel. We accept and teleport onto the executive suite at the top of the tower. Brotherhood soldiers are already on site, so the fight starts immediately.

We clear the upper floors, activate the Executive Research Lab terminal, recover the Mass Fusion Executive ID, and ride the elevator down through Brotherhood ambushes toward the reactor level. After restoring power where needed we enter the highly radioactive reactor chamber, release the interlock, and take the Beryllium Agitator. Automated security and more Brotherhood forces try to stop the extraction. Once the building is cleared we cut to Allie finishing the Mass Fusion quest back at the Institute and then report to Father.

  • Lore Fact: The Beryllium Agitator was designed before the Great War to cold start a fusion reaction. Once the reaction begins it behaves like a match lighting a campfire, allowing the Institute reactor to become self-sustaining.

Pinned and the Recruitment of T.S. Wallace

Father next sends us to assist an Institute team trying to recruit the wasteland scientist T.S. Wallace. When we arrive, Minutemen are holding the house. We kill all of them, then go inside and speak with Enrico Thompson. Wallace has locked himself in a room and refuses to come out willingly. After the persuasion attempt fails, the Institute team teleports him out by force.

We teleport back to the Institute and report to Father. With Wallace secured, the reactor project can move forward.

Recording the Broadcast and Reconfiguring Diamond City Radio

Father asks us to record a public message announcing the Institute’s presence to the Commonwealth. We use the microphone in his quarters and then travel to Diamond City Radio. Inside Travis’s shack we install the radio parts into the transmitter racks and boost the station’s range so the speech can reach across the wasteland.

After the transmitter is reconfigured we teleport back to Father.

Activating the Institute Reactor

Father is waiting in the reactor chamber. We install the Beryllium Agitator, start the reactor from the nearby terminal, and speak with him one last time as the new power source comes online. That conversation ends Powering Up and closes the episode.

The next episode will begin at the Directorate, where the Institute leadership is expected to send us after the Railroad.
