Chapter 12 of Mafia: The Old Country begins with wide shots of Palermo, then moves to a private talk between Don Spadaro and Baron Fontanella. As they discuss their plans, the scene shifts to Enzo, who rides quietly in the back of a cart, holding a picture. When the cart stops at a modest house, he gets out and gives a package from Don Torrisi to a waiting priest. After the delivery, the priest leads him straight into the hidden crypts under the city. This marks the real start of La Forza Del Destino, a chapter that goes from tense underground infiltration to a public assassination in a crowded opera house, and ends with a personal knife fight in the dark.

The title has a lot of meaning. La Forza Del Destino comes from Giuseppe Verdi’s 1862 opera and means The Force of Destiny. In Mafia: The Old Country, it is more than just a name. Enzo is about to settle one blood debt, but at the same time, he starts another, more personal conflict.

Following Father Clemente into the Tunnels

We follow the priest into the old underground waterways beneath Palermo. These tunnels have been part of the city for centuries, and by the early 1900s, they were used by anyone who wanted to move unseen. At the start of the descent, there is a small altar built into the stone wall on the left. If you interact with it, you unlock the exclusive Saints’ Card of Santa Rosalia.

Deeper inside, we push a heavy cart aside and find the Smuggler’s Message note in a barrel. A locked gate makes us take a lower path through the water, where a skeleton still holds the Resistenza charm bead. After raising the gate, we continue until a noise makes the priest send Enzo ahead alone. Several Guardie patrol the next area. Stealth is the best way through. Clear the guards, meet up with the priest, and climb the ladder into the underbelly of the opera house.

Lore Fact: The qanats of Palermo were built during the Arab rule in Sicily. By the time of Mafia: The Old Country, they served as a hidden second city for smugglers, political radicals, and crime families who wanted to avoid the main streets.

The Stealth Climb Through the Opera House

As soon as we enter the opera house, the rules change. If you are detected, the mission fails, so every move must be careful. Near the entrance, the Paziente charm bead is on a wooden crate and is easy to miss if you hurry. Upstairs in the dressing room, you can find the La Forza Del Destino Script note and a Mystery Fox hidden in the corner.

Backstage is crowded with Guardie and Spadaro’s men. Use cover, wait for conversations to finish, and sneak past groups instead of fighting everyone. After climbing two ladders to the catwalk above the stage, take a short detour opposite the objective marker to find the Newspaper: Camel Riders on a box in the dark. Keep following the elevated paths to reach the Royal Box.

Baron Fontanella sits alone, watching the performance. A silent knife attack from behind sends his body over the balcony and into the audience. The theater erupts in chaos. Don Spadaro enters at the worst moment, sees what happened, and runs away.

The Firefight and Pursuit of Don Spadaro

Stealth ends as soon as the Baron falls. The opera house becomes a chaotic, multi-level battlefield as Spadaro’s men and the remaining Guardie fill the corridors. We fight through decorated halls, stairwells, and parts of the building that are already burning. The gunfights are straightforward but intense. Each room must be cleared before we can chase after the fleeing Don.

The chase moves back into the sewers and then into an old crypt. After defeating the last of Spadaro’s men, we face the Don himself in a knife duel.

Patience is key in this fight. Parry his attacks, respond with short combos, and be ready for his stronger moves. When Spadaro is defeated, the Torrisi family gets its revenge and the Most Dutiful Soldier achievement unlocks.

Return to Villa Torrisi

After the final cutscenes of the opera house sequence and the crypt duel we return to Villa Torrisi under the cover of night. Don Torrisi is waiting and congratulates Enzo on the mission’s complete success, making his pride in the result very clear. He speaks about the message that has been sent to anyone still considering challenging the family, and then informs Enzo that Luca has been properly buried at the chapel. The Don asks him to go and pay his respects, offering a quiet moment of acknowledgment for everything lost in the previous chapter. There is also time for a short optional conversation with Cesare near the entrance if you choose to stop and speak with him before heading up the hill.

The Promise at Luca’s Grave

At the grave Enzo meets Isabella once more in a quiet and heavy scene. The full weight of the night and everything that has led to this point settles between them as they stand together. He vows to protect her and their unborn child no matter what comes next. Together they reach the decision that will shape the rest of the story of Mafia: The Old Country. Staying in Sicily under the old rules of loyalty, blood, and obligation is no longer possible for either of them. The only future that still feels open is to leave for America and try to build a life that belongs to them alone, free from the cycles of violence that have defined everything up to this moment.

Chapter 12 of Mafia: The Old Country ends on that quiet but deeply significant decision. After a night of careful infiltration, public assassination, and personal combat, Enzo walks away from Luca’s grave carrying both the victory of the mission and the knowledge that the life he has been living inside the Torrisi family cannot continue unchanged.
