Fallout 4 Walkthrough Episode 8: Sailing to Far Harbor & Reaching Acadia

Sailing to Far Harbor, Defending the Hull, and Reaching Acadia in Episode 8

Watch Fallout 4 Gameplay Walkthrough Episode 8: Investigating the Nakano Residence, Defending Far Harbor, and Reaching Acadia | 4K 60FPS PC Ultra Graphics

We kick off this episode by tuning into the Valentine’s Detective Agency radio frequency, picking up a brand new case directly from Ellie Perkins. The investigation leads us far out to the northeast edge of the Commonwealth map to the Nakano residence. Here, we meet Kenji and Rei Nakano, who officially hire us to track down their missing daughter, Kasumi. They suspect she ran away from home under highly mysterious circumstances, and it is up to us to piece together the clues left behind on the property.

Kasumi’s Final Holotape

Scouring the Nakano property required a sharp eye. After thoroughly investigating the house, I located a hidden key tucked behind a grandfather’s picture frame, which perfectly matched the locked safe out in the boathouse. Cracking the safe open rewarded us with Kasumi’s final holotape. Playing the audio log revealed a shocking twist: Kasumi had convinced herself she was a synthetic replacement and made radio contact with a secret synth colony located on a distant island up north.

Informing the Brotherhood of Steel

Before we blindly chased this lead into unknown territory, I made a tactical detour to maintain our military allegiance. We reported the existence of this hidden synth refuge directly to the Brotherhood of Steel command to secure our bases. With the Brotherhood informed, we returned to the docks, boarded Kenji’s boat, and initiated the cinematic transition to the Far Harbor DLC map.

Defending the Hull from Gulpers

Stepping off the boat onto the docks of Far Harbor, we barely had a moment to speak with the town’s leader, Captain Avery, before the settlement’s alarms started blaring. The town’s defensive wall, known as the Hull, was immediately assaulted by a vicious, slithering wave of Gulpers emerging from the radioactive mist. The close-quarters combat was fast, bloody, and visceral, requiring heavy firepower to blast the mutated amphibians back into the ocean.

  • Lore Fact: Gulpers are heavily mutated salamanders that have grown to massive, predatory sizes due to the unique radioactive fog of The Island. They are capable of swallowing a human whole and often hang upside down from trees to ambush unsuspecting prey.

Securing a Guide at The Last Plank

With the Hull secured, Captain Avery pointed us toward the local tavern, The Last Plank, to find a seasoned guide capable of navigating the deadly, irradiated fog covering the rest of the island. Inside the dimly lit bar, we met Old Longfellow, a grizzled survivalist. I paid his fee, and we hired him to safely escort us through the treacherous wilderness to our primary objective.

  • Lore Fact: Old Longfellow knows the island’s layout better than anyone alive, but he harbors a deep, personal hatred for the Children of Atom. Decades ago, the cult abducted and brainwashed his pregnant fiancé, leading to a tragedy that turned him into a bitter, heavy-drinking isolate.

The Radioactive Fog & Arriving at the Acadia Sanctuary

Following Longfellow out of the town gates, we plunged directly into the glowing, irradiated mist. Pushing an RTX 5080 on Ultra Settings makes the volumetric fog effects in Far Harbor look incredibly dense and oppressive. Along the mountain path, we were constantly harassed by Trappers—crazed, violent scavengers who have completely lost their minds to the island’s passive radiation.

After surviving the grueling trek and neutralizing the Trapper threat, we finally arrived at the mountaintop observatory known as Acadia. Seeing the massive, domed synth sanctuary looming out of the fog felt like a massive victory. We wrap the episode right at the heavy front doors, fully prepped and geared up to step inside, meet their mysterious leader DiMA, and finally track down Kasumi in the next installment.
